We’ve recorded some of our hikes in Andalusia here.
Alhama de Granada
The hike follows the gorge. The way there is easy, the return along the other side of the gorge is very strenuous, as there’s practically no path. The last part of the gorge towards the village is very beautiful. We enjoyed it.
El Tocal
The first part of the hike near the visitor center is very touristy, the second part, which then branches off onto the longer trail, is deserted. We only encounter the ranger. The hike is long, challenging, and the path in the second part is not easily discernible. We are absolutely delighted by the stunning scenery, the animals – we saw groups of Iberian ibices twice – and the views. Truly fantastic.
Frigiliana
The initial section through a scree slope is a bit tricky. After that, the trail follows the riverbed pleasantly until the long, strenuous climb, which rewards us with a fantastic view. The section to the second viewpoint is easy, then comes the descent. It’s steep and full of scree. At the valley floor, we spot four more Iberian ibex. The return journey through the river valley is exciting.
Lanjaron, Acequia Aceituno
The entrance in the small town is incredibly charming, practically a tunnel under the houses.
Towards Lanjaron, the trail climbs quite steeply. The path is pleasant to hike and easy to follow. We encounter a couple of small hiking groups coming the other way. Further up, the trail follows a north wind for a long stretch through sweet chestnut trees. After crossing the river and a short climb, however, it soon descends. The surface is simple, with stones, but large and well-maintained.
Montefrio
Montefrio is a charming little village with a beautiful castle, a citadel, and a church. The hike starts on paved roads and then leads into the olive groves. The whole area is covered in olive trees. The hike is quite pleasant until the ascent, which is very steep. The rest is easy.
