On our journey along the Argentine coast to Ushuaia in the south, we prepared ourselves for a less adventurous, speedy journey. Everything turned out completely different: in addition to the infinite number of penguins and whales, we could also visit many different species of seals in the wild. Playa Escondida is home to a colony of Southern elephant seals (Mirounga Leonina), one of the largest seal species. They let us get close to them during their sunbathing. Further south at Caleta Olivia we met maned seals or South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens). This colony was also very active and exciting to observe during their daily sunbathing.
