3. – 12.12.17

I was really looking forward to riding the Caprivi Strip again after more than 30 years, but it was a disappointment. The road is paved now throughout and the landscape felt rather boring.

In Namibia, we experienced the various police controls last year as very friendly. Now there is a control every few miles, obviously before the big holidays. The first cop is anything but friendly. When I point out that he should not climb up Globi, he gets angry and yells at me. While I explain to his boss that I don’t let a police guy yelling, he didn’t stop roaring at me in my back. Before letting us continue after more than half an hour of discussion, he wants to see all the stowage boxes and absolutely climb into the Globi. Since he makes a road check, he has no right to view our private apartment, but we let his boss have a looke. After this harassment we could continue.

As we drive across Rundu we bumped into Hulda and Peter. We met them in South Africa last year. We had a coffee together and a little chat of course. It’s nice to meet friends in the middle of Africa again. As they wanted to continue and we wanted to stay, the reunion was unfortunately be a bit short.
